March 7, Sunday
Leonard Bernstein, “Chichester Psalms”
College choirs from Middlebury College, St. Michael’s College and Castleton State College join to present this masterwork by Leonard Bernstein in his orchestration for chorus, soloists, harp, organ and percussion. Sung in Hebrew, the piece is challenging vocally and instrumentally with vivid and intensely dramatic interpretation of the highly emotional Psalm texts. The concert also features each collaborating choir in solo performances. Concerts are also given at Grace Church in Rutland (Friday March 5, 7:30 PM), and the Chapel of St. Michael’s College in Colchester (Saturday March 6, 3:00 PM).

Join the music department for a concert celebration of the music of Jean Berger (1909-2002). At the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth Middlebury College students, faculty  and ensembles present a panel discussion and concert to showcase Berger’s compositions and influence on the music program at Middlebury, where he taught on the faculty from 1948-1959, his first major academic position. Instrumental, vocal and choral works are featured on the concert.

March 11, Thursday
Middlebury College Orchestra, Andrew Massey, Director. This concert features soloist Richard P. Chen '13,  winner of the 2010 Alan and Joyce Beucher Concerto Competition, performing a Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in d minor. The program also includes Brahms' adventurous Symphony No. 3 in F, op. 90, and Rossini's Italian Girls in Algiers.

from Stone Document
Stone Document is a progressive - ambient - fusion trio manned by drummer/keyboardist, Mike Roze, guitarist, Dennis “Doc” Tirch, and Chapman Stick player, Mark Christensen.  Check any preconceptions about "prog rock" or “jam based” music at the attic door, grab some headphones, and give a listen to this blend of electronic pulse, psychedelic improvisations, and a return to music without borders.

Ezra Axelrod '08: London-based recording/performance artist Ezra Axelrod brings his “Lust for Wisdom” North American Tour to Middlebury  College for a performance that explores themes of lust, love, conflict, and masculine/gay identity through original songs.  The Middlebury concert will feature several guest appearances by Ezra's Middlebury friends and mentors.  The concept of the tour is based on a line from one of Axelrod’s songs: “I gave you all my lust / for a piece of your precious wisdom,” making reference to a young person’s journey of trial and error to find his place in the world.

Cynthia Huard, piano

Affiliate Artists Susanne Peck and Cynthia Huard perform a beautiful concert together. Peck's career encompasses the roles of conductor, singer, and educator. An acclaimed soprano, she has sung and recorded with many leading ensembles, including the Boston Early Music Festival, The New York Collegium, and the Concert Royal Baroque Opera Company. Huard has appeared in recital as a pianist and harpsichordist throughout the United States and in Europe. Her versatile musicianship is a key element of the summer concert series of the Rochester Chamber Music Society, where as artistic director she performs with internationally known artists.
